Mediocre Networking equals Failed Job Search
Job Seekers and Warren Buffet
Are you dismissing the value of contacts at networking events?
Don't underestimate the power of the interactions and contacts you make at job search networking events, even when there possible connection to you seems fairly far fetched.
Harry Urschel, writing as a guest blogger on the Career Rocketeer Blog, one of our featured job search blog feeds, describes in a blog titled "What good does this contact do for me?", a case study for how an electrical engineer might find an accountant a valuable contact. At first blush this idea seems ridiculous, but upon digging deeper, you begin to see the value of the interaction, questions, and help that might come from this networking event connection.

Does Age Discrimination Exist in Hiring?
Of course, age discrimination exists. What a silly question.
However, when a younger candidate is selected, we want to cry foul quickly. Sometimes, the reason the older candidate was not selected has nothing to do with age.
My partner Brad presents an interesting case study on a recent executive search regarding candidates of different ages. CLICK HERE to read the blog post and let us know how you would vote to determine whether this is a case of age discrimination in hiring.
You be the judge - was this a case of age discrimination by our client or was the hiring decision based on other factors.
